Springs coming on

Ha, no, I didn't start seeds yet! Had ya going tho, didn't I? Still 2 whole weeks before I can even think about starting anything. It's been really, really hard to wait this time around. So much going on around here, not too much of it good tho. That happens... Soon enough I'll be starting seeds and working on growing that wholesome, healthy, chemical free food!

Okay, I just can't wait! I have another round of cheese to give away in celebration of Gods goodness, who's ready?

Everyone that was in for last week is still in, anyone else that would like a piece of home made cheese, post a comment and you're in. Sorry to my out of country readers, still working on how I can gift it you.

The slices are 14oz of fresh Cheddar cheese. One to give away and one for anyone that can't wait to win for a $12 donation. First come, first serve now, make sure you email me at mmpaints@yahoo.com so I know you want it.

Still no word on the job but we've got a couple other things in the works, maybe some good luck for us for a change!

Last minute add on to the post.... a completely home made supper here to warm up the cold boys in the house and stick to their ribs a little. A little biscuits and sausage with gravy! Got some home ground whole wheat bread rising there too.........

  5. ROFL Tango, those are basil plants sprouted in little peat pellets. That's how i get my seeds sprouted, works really well because it's like a mini greenhouse for them ;)

  6. Tango I thought the same thing! LOL Only after I took a third look at the picture and saw the bucket did I know there were some baby plants!

Still praying for a job, for your provision. Keep the faith. Looking forward to learning how to make cheese myself.

    Have a blessed week.

  7. OMG!! My cheese came to day!!! IT is so GOOD!!!....Umm..Ugh..I mean its just terrible, y'all should just pull your bids..8D..It's sooooo good! I got just a tiny nibble when my daughter her kids and my best friend showd up! I'm a tad ashamed to admit I quickly rewrapped it and hid it in the back of the fridge! I don't want to share it's that good!

  9. Everyone should enter the drawing. Kat's cheese is AWESOME!!! I just received the package from the last giveaway today, and it won't last until tomorrow. It is SOOOOO GOOD! My children have told me I need to enter all other cheese giveaway contests.

Thanks so much Kat! I ought to hire you as cheese-maker. I can supply the milk from our cows... :) Okay, maybe we need to make some of our own -- your cheese is inspirational!

  11. I wonder if you could walk us through the cheese making process some time. It would be fun to try it. I tried to make tofu, but I did not really like the result...

  15. I wish I had a way to get ahold of some fresh goat or cows milk. I do want to try some homemade cheese. One of these days! :)

I want to start an herb garden for sure this year. I tried growing a few last spring but they didn't do as well as I hoped. Nothing like being about to go pick your own.

Any snow yet? The way it looks, we might get some around noon. Only a 12 hour difference from the last forecast. lol

  16. You got me! 'She started seeds already!' is what I shouted out when I saw the pics!!! Haha! If you haven't sold the cheese yet, I would love to buy it!

  17. Debbie, I'm going to check out the Farm Fresh milk, it's supposed to be low temp pasteurized and with a little calcium chloride, maybe it will make cheese. I'll keep ya posted. Spitting snow this morning at 6am, nothing big yet tho!

Gen, it's yours if you want it, no one has claimed it yet!

  18. Mmmmm, Mmmmm biscuits and gravy, there is no better comfort food( at least in my books*wink*) No fair, we're still dry until Addy freshens the end of April. We can't wait until we have our fresh raw milk again!

We don't start seeds until end of Feb. otherwise end up re-potting them twice before hardening off to go out in the garden. I'm green with envy that you've got yours started, I'm getting Spring Fever bad!LOL! I've put in an order for some new herb seeds, we like to experiment with culinary, as well as medicinal herbs, and add 3-4 each year. It's to the point we've expanded into a whole new area of our gardens, YEAH! Now the trick is to teach Mike and Cortney what each is, where it is located in the garden and it's uses. Cortney has a good start over Mike already.

Still holding you and your family up in prayer.

  23. Those biscuits and gravy look wonderful!

I'd love to have a taste of your cheese, too. Can't wait to be making our own one day. Hubby and I are both itching to get goats, we'll see if it ends up waiting until after our new baby comes in May. :P

I commented a while back with some questions about seed starting, raised beds, and rabbits that you kindly answered for me. Thought I'd let you know that my husband built a wooden shelving unit and wired his own lights on it for grow lights. We've got a bunch of saved water and milk jugs for potting containers, and a few canning jars boxes as well. Depending on how well it turns out, I'll post a picture on our blog if you'd like to see it.

    Thanks for your help!

  24. Oooh, homemade cheese, that sounds wonderful!! I wish we had room for a cow!! We have a goat that we are planning to breed soon and milk. We're so new to all of this still. So much to learn. I just found your site today. Can't wait to see what else you have on here that I could learn from. Thanks for sharing!!

  25. MMPaints, please enter me in your drawing for the home-made cheese, too.

Some time perhaps you could share your secret for turning out such wonderful looking sausage gravy? It looks just wonderful. Thanks.

  26. Everybody is in!

Meghan, yes of course, I'd love to see pictures!

    Welcome Kendra!

Milton, it's an easy recipe, enough flour to make a paste from the bacon/sausage fat and roughly a half gallon or so of fresh milk and stir, stir, stir, until it comes to a boil. I use a wire wisk instead of a spatula, less clumpy that way. Salt and pepper to taste, then add your bacon bits or sausage.
