Wow, did we ever get a big break last night. A wicked storm rolled thru here and according to reports KFVS12, and WSIL3, we had a tornado last night. The pictures came from WSILs facebook. The affected area is just 15 miles as the crow flies to the southeast of me. So far, from what I can see right around the barn lot, all we got was a couple dead branches down and that crappy old barn lost a little more roofing.
Now, here it is, February, not even close to the normal tornado activity time of the year and now there's 40 houses damaged, the power is out to a large section of the county, several local businesses are damaged including ones that provide food for the area. If you are a "prepper", this will not affect you. Most people only have 3 days worth of food in their homes and no source of water other than the faucet. No power, no water coming out of the faucet and all that preprepared, frozen food is going to go bad. Hmmm, seems like a no brainer to at least be a little emergency prepared, doesn't it?

ReplyDeleteThe south side of the town is pretty much wiped out. EMS is working hard to locate people in the damage area. let's all pray they are all okay.
ReplyDeleteDang Girl! That was WAY to close. I'm sure glad you are all ok. Weird time of the year for tornado's. We got some heavy wind here but nothing touched down. And isn't it nice to be a prepper! :-)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got by with just a few branches down. That is way too close. Preppers have a bigger problem if they have animals, hardly ever hear anything on news about animals during storms other than dogs or cats. Our news said there were 11 tornadoes in the Kansas area last night.
ReplyDeleteWow, you were very blessed that it passed you by! We got the heavy winds and local areas had some damage but nothing like this or what is happening in KY today. News casters said with the lite winter we will be in for a earlier/havier than normal storm season. I think all we have left to work on is water storage thank goodness. Feel sorry for those that say "it won't hit me" and fail to prep!

Glad to hear it missed you. We used up most of our food storage in the months following my stroke. This brings it home to get crackin' and fill those shelves up again, and with more than just pretty dishes! lol I'm glad you are safe.
ReplyDeleteI was just wondering about you guys, glad to hear you guys are ok. I woke up around 2:20 right before the storms hit. We ended up being in a tornado warning (1 of only 2 places in the area with rotation). All we got was some big winds and rain blowing in all directions. Praying for all those people in town. It definitely goes to show how good being prepared can be :)
ReplyDeleteP.S.- Even though we had a tornado warning no sirens went off and Dispatch never released a statement to volunteer fire departments about it...just plain awesome, thank God the rotation didn't do anything. The same thing happened over in the town in Kansas, the people never knew until the last minute.
really bad storm just passed through n.e. mississippi...we have been watching for tornados the last two weeks because the weather has been so warm and balmy. it is sure a good thing to be prepared for anything these days. and it pays to heed the weather and signs too..sometimes weatherman makes mistakes and sirens dont go off...
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to be prepared esp during tornado season. I try to keep my relatives prepared, and they just say if something bad happens they will come stay with me. Yeah, I'm really looking forward to that!
