Okay, look what we found this morning! The first egg(bottom to top) is a banty egg, then a regular chicken egg, then a normal duck egg and then on top is the monster, freak egg we found this morning. 3 1/2" long! It covers the whole palm of my hand! One of our ducks laid that egg!
I am going to keep that egg, remove the innards and glaze it to keep as an ornament. Something that unusual needs to be saved......

I agree, save it if you can. It will make a nice Christmas ornament! That is one huge egg...how is the Duck? It will be intresting to see if she consistantly produces larger eggs...wonderful but...OUCH!

My polish grandmother (Boosha) used to make Christmas ornaments from egg shells. She poked two pinholes in opposite ends of the egg and blew the insides out. Then she painted and applied glitter and sequins. A piece of fishing line through the holes completed the ornament.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why those giant eggs happen(?). We have one pullet, either a barred rock or a rhode island red that leaves HUGE eggs, with rippled surface. None of them will admit it tho. And none walk with a limp.

It must be something in the air. We too have been finding extra large JUMBO hen eggs lately. Evidently we have 2 hens laying these eggs. I weigh my eggs for sale each day, the jumbo's we get bottom out the scale. These are too large to try to weigh on it. We have also found tiny hen eggs too acouple of days. Makes me wonder if the weather or feed is playing a part in these freaky eggs sizes. I thought I was the only one seeing this. Glad to know that I am not the only one.
